Unforeseen complications regarding the insurance policy and risk have delayed it
LITTLETON — Although the hope was to open the Littleton Winter Shelter by Jan. 13, unforeseen complications regarding the insurance policy and risk have delayed it, just as this week’s overnight temperatures are forecast to plunge below zero. According to the New Hampshire Department of Safety’s Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, the Arctic blast will be the coldest since January 2022 and overnight hours Monday through Thursday could feel like double digits below zero. Meanwhile, a team of volunteers and staff are working as fast as possible to open the town’s first overnight emergency shelter at 18 Pleasant St., in a building owned by the adjacent First United Methodist Church. The facility will have 10 beds, impose rules regarding behavior, and be staffed with trained personnel. The facility director is Chloe Duff. As of Monday, no projected opening date was set.
