The Vermont State Police is investigating the death of a man

NEWPORT TOWN — The Vermont State Police is investigating the death of a man at a home on Lawson Road in Newport Town. State police reported that the man died in the afternoon on Christmas, after an altercation with someone with whom he shared a residence. The other person was treated at North Country Hospital for injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening, according to information shared by the VSP. The information from police notes the altercation appears isolated contained to the one address involving two people who knew each other. State Police were alerted to the emergency at 3:15 p.m. on Monday. They responded and found a 58-year-old man deceased at the scene. The other man, age 39, had already been taken by private vehicle to North Country Hospital. The man was treated for injuries and released. This investigation is in its early stages and involves members of the Vermont State Police Major Crime Unit, Bureau of Criminal Investigations, Field Force Division, Crime Scene Search Team and Victim Services Unit. No one is currently in custody.
