Cabot School Board Targets January 6 Vote on Closing High School Grades
The Cabot School Board discussed the logistics and language for a town-wide vote in early January to decide whether the school should close its high school grades and adopt high school choice. The board is targeting January 6 for a special town meeting to decide the high school’s fate. The vote follows months of discussion, community outreach and debate over the high school, which has seen a drop in full-time student attendance and rising concerns about its sustainability. All this comes against the backdrop of an ongoing merger study called for in Act 170. The board decided last month, given concerns about sustaining the high school from a staffing and budget perspective and the inability to fast-track a merger into a joint high school, that voters should weigh in on whether the district should tuition its high school students out.
