A woman who dragged a Vermont State Trooper along Interstate 91 in St. Johnsbury was sentenced

A woman who dragged a Vermont State Trooper along Interstate 91 in St. Johnsbury was sentenced by plea agreement on Wednesday. Angela Birk, 42, of Newport, pleaded no contest to aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and gross negligent operation and was sentenced by Judge Michael R. Kainen to 3-8 years – all suspended – except for two years to serve in prison with credit allowed by law. Birk will also have to serve eight years of probation and pay $294 in court surcharges. The state dismissed a charge of eluding police – negligent operation, as part of the plea agreement.In February of 2022, Vermont State Police Sgt. Matthew Tarricone was injured while trying to stop Birk from fleeing a traffic stop during a drug-related investigation. He suffered injuries to his head, left side of his face, left elbow and left knee.
