LITTLETON — A Newport, Vt., man who two years ago was arrested for armed robbery in the Northeast Kingdom was arrested on Monday in Littleton after police said he walked into a downtown store, demanded money, and told the victim behind the counter that he had a gun. Nathan F. Cheney, 26, is charged with one Class A felony count of robbery for the incident that occurred at Pentimento gift shop. Additional charges are expected to be filed. No injuries were reported during the incident, which police said is a rare kind of crime in Littleton. Cheney was held on preventive detention without bail on Monday evening and was arraigned Tuesday at Littleton District Court, where the judge agreed with preventive detention and remanded him to the Grafton County House of Corrections. Littleton police apprehended Cheney at 1:46 p.m., less than 10 minutes after the initial call from Bella Funk Boutique at 1:38 p.m.
