Officials with the Vermont Department of Corrections reported on Thursday

Officials with the Vermont Department of Corrections reported on Thursday that a local man jailed in the correctional facility in Springfield has died. Ralph Morale, 61, of Lyndonville, was at the Jack Byrne Center in Lebanon, N.H., receiving care for a medical condition, when he died. Morale was lodged at the Southern State Correctional Facility in Springfield since November 23, 2023. Corrections officials noted that he was hospitalized for complex chronic medical conditions starting April 21. He first went to Springfield Hospital and then was taken to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC). On Monday, he was transferred to the Jack Byrne Center where he was placed on medical furlough due to his declining health condition and low risk to public safety. He was receiving palliative and hospice care until his passing on Thursday morning.
