Newport police arrested a 77-year-old woman on Sunday
Newport police arrested a 77-year-old woman on Sunday after she reportedly pointed a loaded .22 caliber handgun at a family member. Loretta Savage, of Newport, was charged with first-degree aggravated domestic assault. According to Chief Travis Bingham, it was a few minutes before 9 p.m. on Sunday when the police department learned about the incident at Savage’s home. The chief noted that police were told that “Savage had experienced a mental health crisis and allegedly pointed a firearm at a family member.” Police responded to Savage’s home in Newport, and she reportedly confirmed that she had pointed a firearm at her family member. Police located and seized a loaded .22 caliber handgun from the residence. She was taken to North Country Hospital for evaluation and was subsequently arrested by Newport police. Savage was arraigned on Monday at Orleans Superior Court.
