Whitefield Public Library Greenlit for Major Expansion and Renovation

WHITEFIELD — Whitefield Public Library (WPL) received municipal permission this week for a multi-million dollar expansion and renovation project. On Monday, the Planning Board OK’d plans to renovate the existing 119-year-old library and build a two-story, 3,600-square-foot addition. The board gave the project its blessing but did not issue formal permit approvals, which are not needed since it is a municipal project on town-owned land. During the discussion, Planning Board members cautioned WPL to be aware of drainage issues on site, which were an issue when the town hall was located on-site. Barring setbacks, WPL intends to break ground on the project this spring.
