Students Help Prevent Gun Incident at Vermont School
POWNAL, Vt. – Authorities say a potential crisis was avoided at a Vermont school on Wednesday when kids told teachers that a student brought an unloaded handgun and dozens of rounds of ammunition to school. It happened at the Pownal Elementary School on Wednesday morning. Bennington County Sheriff James Gulley says the student was removed from class, and the 9 mm handgun and 67 rounds of ammo were removed from his backpack. The sheriff says the student sent a message about the gun on social media. Authorities credit the school for quick action and students for reporting what they saw.
