St Johnsbury Voters Reject Second Bond Request for Armory Police Project
ST. JOHNSBURY — A majority of voters on Tuesday rejected a request for more money to transform the Armory into a police station and emergency dispatching center. The ballot before townspeople at the polls asked voters if they would approve a $3.78 million bond to help fund the Armory project. Those voting no totalled 597, and the yes votes numbered 241. It was the second time taxpayers were asked to help pay for the project that’s been in the works for a few years. In September 2021, the first bond request was for $5.4 million, and voters approved it by a count of 255-170. At the time, St. Johnsbury residents were told that the total project cost was expected to be $5.8 million.
