Speed and alcohol intoxication are believed to be contributing factors to a September 24 single-vehicle crash on South Wheelock Road, where the vehicle damaged a telephone pole and sent live wires across the roadway. Austin Emmons, 20, of Lyndonville, lost control of his truck, crossed over the oncoming lane and collided with the telephone pole. Emmons and his dog occupied the vehicle. Emmons had minor injuries, and his truck had moderate front-end damage. The dog did not sustain injury. After being transported to NVRH in St. Johnsbury, Emmons allegedly assaulted medical staff and caused a disturbance in the emergency room. Once his treatment was completed, he was issued conditions of release. He appeared in court, on the charges of DUI, negligent operation, assault on a protected professional, and aggravated disorderly conduct. Emmons was also issued tickets for misuse of a license plate, failure to maintain lane, operating with a suspended license, alcohol under 21, and failure to wear a seatbelt.
