President Joe Biden has approved a Major Disaster Declaration

President Joe Biden has approved a Major Disaster Declaration for the late July storm that devastated parts of the Northeast Kingdom. The declaration will help communities and individuals in Caledonia, Essex, and Orleans counties recover from damages caused by the historic rainfall and flooding of July 29-31. The storm delivered record-breaking rainfall, with over 8 inches falling within a 24-hour period in St. Johnsbury and capping the wettest month in the museum’s 130 years of records. The storm’s worst effects were concentrated, with St. Johnsbury, Lyndon, Island Pond and Morgan receiving some of the heaviest rain, while other communities sustained damage to public infrastructure and homes as well.
