One person was hospitalized following a dirt bike crash
LITTLETON — One person was hospitalized following a dirt bike crash on Thursday evening. According to NH Fish and Game, 42-year-old Derek Silva was airlifted to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center with “serious” and “life threatening” injuries. Silva was traveling on a closed section of the Ammonoosuc Rail Trail after dark and without a headlight, and was traveling at an “extremely” high rate of speed, when he struck a tree that had fallen across the trail, authorities said. The dirt bike flipped and Silva, who was not wearing any protective gear, was thrown from the bike, authorities said. Littleton Fire, Ambulance, and Police and Fish and Game conservation officers were summoned at 6:32 p.m. Alcohol and speed appear to be primary factors in the crash, Fish and Game said. The incident remains under investigation.
