A high-profile spat has divided the county government

HAVERHILL — A high-profile spat has divided the county government. Grafton County Sheriff Jeff Stiegler has filed suit against the three-member County Commission for allegedly meddling in his affairs. In a complaint dated Jan. 29, Stiegler claims the commissioners undermined his authority in the discipline of two former employees. He seeks punitive damages and injunctive relief to prevent such behavior in the future. Records show the commission voted 3-0 on Feb. 28, 2023, to overturn Stiegler’s suspension of administrative employee Karen Bragg. Stiegler claims the commission did so without allowing him to cross-examine Bragg or challenge her claims.
