A substitute teacher accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old female student will soon undergo a competency evaluation. Jesse Waldenville, 42, of Lowell, was working at the Lowell Graded School when the alleged incident occurred. In May, former Orleans Superior Court Judge Lisa A. Warren ordered Waldenville to be held without bail and a competency evaluation to be conducted. At a hearing in Orleans Superior Court on Wednesday, Judge Justin P. Jiron noted that the competency evaluation had been delayed. But then Waldenville’s defense attorney, Lydia V. Newcomb, updated the court on the plan, saying the competency evaluation is being scheduled for Oct. 12. Waldenville remains held without bail at Northern State Correctional Facility in Newport. He faces a possible sentence of 25 years to life in prison and $155,000 in fines.
