Plaistow Library Talk Explores History of New England Stone Walls
PLAISTOW — Miles of stone walls winding through New Hampshire’s forests offer clues to a landscape that looked very different two centuries ago. But where did these walls come from, why were they built and who stacked them together? Those questions were at the center of “Discovering New England Stone Walls,” a presentation by Kevin Gardner, author of “The Granite Kiss,” at Plaistow Public Library on Saturday morning. Held in the library’s Nelson Room, the talk explored the history, construction and evolution of the stone walls that cross fields, line roads and carve old property boundaries throughout the region.
