Land Use Review Board Explains New Act 250 Forest Rules at Burke Session
BURKE — Vermont’s Land Use Review Board is developing new Act 250 rules aimed at protecting large forest areas and wildlife corridors from being fragmented by development, a process that has raised questions among rural landowners about how the rules could affect their property. At an information session in Burke on Sept. 30, board members explained the new Criterion 8(C) and took questions about how it could affect development and rural landowners. The criterion takes effect Jan. 1, 2028, and applies only to projects that already require an Act 250 permit. It does not change when or where a permit is required or bring additional projects under state review.
