Wheelock Awaits FEMA Decision on Road Repair Costs
WHEELOCK — Nearly three months after awarding contracts for two FEMA-funded road repairs, the Wheelock Select Board still hasn’t let the work begin because it doesn’t know whether FEMA will reimburse the town for the increased costs.
Both contractors have submitted dewatering plans to the state engineer and are ready to begin, board members said Tuesday. But Vermont Emergency Management has advised the town to seek a scope change from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to cover higher costs for the Boulay Road and South Wheelock Road embankment repair projects.
The request remains unresolved. At the same time, board members said Wheelock’s FEMA contact has indicated that the town may need to begin the work before FEMA decides whether to approve the additional funding.
