Carroll Select Board Halts Recreation Director Pay Citing Lack of Summer Program

CARROLL — The Carroll Select Board voted unanimously this month to withhold salary payments for the town’s recreation director, citing the absence of a summer program — a decision that has drawn frustration from the Recreation Commission, which says its work was overlooked. At its April 8 meeting, the Select Board determined that, since no summer recreation program is currently planned, there is no justification for paying the director’s salary. The controversy comes amid ongoing challenges for the all-volunteer Twin Mountain Recreation Department. According to a 2022 article, the department hasn’t held a full-day summer recreation program since 2018 due to staffing shortages and budget constraints.
