White Mountains School Board Votes to Restrict Transgender Girls Participation in Girls Sports
WHITEFIELD — The White Mountains Regional School Board voted 5-1 on Thursday to revise its athletic participation policy, barring transgender girls from competing in girls’ sports. This decision aligns the district with a 2024 state law and reflects recent changes to Title IX under the Trump administration that restrict transgender girls from participating in interscholastic girls’ athletics. The decision was largely financial. The Trump administration has threatened to withdraw funding from schools that do not comply with the Title IX changes. Federal funding represents about 5 percent of local school budgets.
