Water Line Break Closes Railroad Street in St Johnsbury Repairs Underway Near Cary and Main Building

A water line break shut down Railroad Street to through traffic Sunday morning, although most businesses were operating. One sidewalk was allowed for pedestrian use.The break was in a 6-inch line that provided water for the sprinkler system in the Cary and Main Building. It occurred a bit before 8 a.m. St. Johnsbury Public Works personnel were able to shut the service valve to the building at about 9:45. They needed to use a vacuum truck to clear the debris from the access to the valve. Public Works Director Steve Beauregard, who was on site Sunday morning overseeing the repairs, said the town would tackle the bulk of the repairs, although it was likely the building owner’s responsibility since the water line beyond the shut-off valve belongs to the building owner.
