The Select Board on Monday was updated on plans to expand and renovate Whitefield Public Library

WHITEFIELD — The Select Board on Monday was updated on plans to expand and renovate Whitefield Public Library (WPL) into a larger, more versatile space. The proposal calls for constructing a two-story, 2,600-square-foot addition on the adjacent site of the former Town Hall at the corner of Route 3 and Jefferson Road. The addition’s first floor would be a multi-purpose space suitable for library activities, municipal meetings, and community events and use as a warming/cooling station and emergency shelter. The second floor would expand programming space and connect to the existing library, located uphill. The addition would include an elevator to provide access for those with mobility issues. Meanwhile, the existing 119-year-old building would be renovated to address climate control, weatherization, energy efficiency, code compliance, ADA accessibility, and basement humidity issues.
