The Select Board approved the creation of a police department K-9 program
LANCASTER — The Select Board approved the creation of a police department K-9 program. By a 2-1 vote, the board approved the Lancaster Police Department’s proposal to purchase and train a dog for narcotics, search and rescue, and public relations work. It will not be a “bite dog,” said Chief Jonathan Woodworth. Lt. Rian Matthews will be the K-9 officer. Lancaster will not fully implement a K-9 unit for at least a year. According to Woodworth, the next available K-9 training program would be run by the Hillsborough Police Department in April 2025. Woodworth added that annual costs for a K-9 (food, veterinary bills, etc.) were approximately $2,500.
