Firefighters battled the second fire in the village in two days on Sunday

ST. JOHNSBURY — Firefighters battled the second fire in the village in two days on Sunday, extinguishing flames in an attic and preventing fire damage to the two apartments below. Just past 4 p.m. on Sunday, the fire emergency was reported by Joe Beaucage, one of the tenants of 172 North Ave. He lives on the second floor with his wife and three children. He said he saw smoke coming into the apartment through a sink area in the bathroom and then opened a door and saw smoke coming from the attic. Beaucage said he got his family out of the apartment and then alerted the tenants on the first floor, also a family of five. Both families were being assisted with lodging through volunteers with the Red Cross.
