The long-hoped-for demolition of the Vermont Tap and Die property is finally happening.
LYNDON — The long-hoped-for demolition of the Vermont Tap and Die property is finally happening. Last week, Hammond Grinding & Recycling began to clear the four-acre lot at 378 Main St. and demolish the 93,000-square-foot buildings that have been vacant since 2014. Robert Bosch Tool Corp. (which owns the land) and Kennametal (which owns the buildings) have proposed a 30-week demolition and site restoration process. That timeline calls for eight weeks of building demolition, eight to nine weeks of soil restoration, and three weeks of slab removal. After three weeks of asbestos remediation, building demolition began on May 14. It is moving quickly and is slated to be finished ahead of schedule, likely before the July 4 holiday, town officials said.
