The Kingdom East School District budget was decisively voted down during Tuesday’s Town Meeting. The budget request for $49,201,454.91 failed by a vote of 778 yes to 1,091 no, between the district’s eight towns of Burke, Concord, Lunenburg, Lyndon, Newark, Sheffield, Sutton and Wheelock. The proposed budget represented an $8.1 million increase over the current year’s $41.1 million budget and a 9.1% increase in spending per “weighted” pupil.
