Police are investigating the death of an 86-year-old man
EAST HARDWICK — Police are investigating the death of an 86-year-old man who was struck by a car and killed while walking on Rt. 16, Wednesday morning a few minutes before 3:30. Hardwick Police reported that the man was walking in the southbound lane of the road near Molleur Drive when he was struck by a southbound 2007 Chevy Malibu driven by Benjamin Mallery, 28, of Sheffield. Officer Steve Mitchell and Chief Michael Henry reported that it was foggy at the time of the crash. The man, who police have not yet identified citing the need to first connect with family, was pronounced dead at the scene. Mallery was not hurt. Assisting Hardwick Police with the investigation is the Vermont State Police Crash Reconstruction Team. Hardwick Police reported that they found no evidence that speed, alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.
