Planned Burns Set for Green Mountain National Forest
MENDON, Vt. – U.S. Forest Service officials say prescribed burns are on the calendar for sections of the Green Mountain National Forest over the next two months. The annual burns in April and May are conducted to reduce overgrown vegetation and protect areas from wildfires. They will include burns on about 240 acres in the Rochester/Middlebury Ranger District in Addison and Rutland Counties and about 425 Acres in the Manchester Ranger District in Rutland, Bennington, and Windsor Counties. Those areas may close to the public for several days for public safety.
