One person was killed in a single-car accident over the weekend

WHITEFIELD — One person was killed in a single-car accident over the weekend. Remington M. Smith, 25, of Carroll died in the accident which was reported at approximately 10 p.m. Friday, May 10. In a press release, Whitefield Police said the accident occurred on Airport Road just over the Jefferson town line. The vehicle left the roadway and struck a stand of trees, WPD said, and Smith was the only occupant of the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene. According to Whitefield Police, “A preliminary investigation showed Smith was traveling east on Airport Rd. Smith failed to negotiate a corner and lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle went into a skid, traveling across the west bound lane and striking the stand of trees.” “While speed appears to be a factor, all aspects of the crash remain under investigation.”
