Man allegedly assaulted the other man with a wooden surveyor stake

Two men got into an argument and one of them allegedly assaulted the other man with a wooden surveyor stake. Both men, who are from Groton, were charged with criminal offenses. Donald Pinette, 60, pleaded not guilty on Monday in Caledonia Superior Court to felony aggravated assault and was released on conditions by Judge Michael R. Kainen. Brent Abare, 59, pleaded not guilty on Monday in Caledonia Superior Court to a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct by fighting and was released on personal recognizance by Judge Kainen. Pinette faces a possible sentence of up to 15 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Abare faces a possible sentence of up to 60 days in prison and a $500 fine.
