Lyndon Electric Considers Rate Increase as Reserves Stay Tight

LYNDON — The Lyndon Electric Department is again considering a rate increase as commissioners look at the utility’s limited cash reserves and growing list of expenses and projects.

At the Electric Commission’s Sept. 14 meeting, Chair Ken Mason recommended seeking a 3% increase through the state’s expedited rate process. He estimated it could bring in $100,000 to $200,000.

The commission did not vote on the proposal. Instead, commissioners agreed to wait for a recommendation from the Vermont Public Power Supply Authority, a group of 11 municipally owned utilities that includes Lyndon Electric.
