Franconia Ice Rink Project Still Seeking a Home

After receiving a $475,000 federal grant in 2024, the Franconia Ice Rink Project, a nonprofit seeking to build a year-round recreational facility that includes an outdoor refrigerated rink for ice skating during projected warmer winters, is still looking for a home.

Recently, Jennifer Opalinski, founder of the Franconia Ice Rink Project, went before the Franconia Soaring Foundation to see if a portion of foundation land at the Franconia Airport, where the nonprofit soaring foundation is headquartered, would be a suitable site.

Unfortunately, after review, a rink there would not be feasible, Tom Ganse, president of the foundation’s board of directors, said Wednesday.

NBRC awarded the grant to the Franconia Ice Rink Project. Since then, the search has been on for a site.
