Essex County Sheriff Appeals Courthouse Parking Changes

The Essex County Sheriff is appealing a decision by a Guildhall board to approve changes to the state’s courthouse renovation and expansion project.

Sheriff Trevor Colby filed his appeal in the state Environmental Court on Sept. 4.

It’s a challenge to a portion of a decision made on Aug. 27 by the Town of Guildhall Zoning Board, Planning Board, and Historic District Commission that approves a change to a parking plan in the rear of the Eben Judd Justice Center, which houses the sheriff’s department.

Sheriff Colby’s appeal was restricted only to the changes related to the parking, which include the retaining wall and other landscape alterations that he said impact the sheriff’s department’s operations.
