Burke Mountain Academy Pledges $25,000 to East Burke Fire Brigade

BURKE — Burke Mountain Academy has committed to donating $25,000 to the East Burke Fire Brigade over the next five years, providing the volunteer department with $5,000 annually to help pay for equipment and gear.

The academy announced the commitment this week, saying the donations will support local emergency services and help provide resources for the department’s volunteer first responders.

The money comes as East Burke Fire is working to rebuild its finances after spending $30,000 to repair Engine 6, its 20-year-old primary fire engine. The repair depleted much of the department’s equipment budget.

The department is also marking its 50th anniversary this year and has launched a “50 for 50” fundraising campaign seeking $50,000.
