Bail was set at $1,500 for a Hardwick man accused of unruly behavior on the morning of September 22 at NVRH. Responding to a 5:12 a.m. report of an individual destroying property at NVRH and assaulting hospital staff. Troopers and officers from the St. Johnsbury Police Department arrested Aaron Smith, 44, of Hardwick, and charged him with aggravated disorderly conduct, assault on a protected professional, and unlawful mischief. Police say that Smith destroyed equipment and walls in the hospital, assaulted staff, and yelled profanities while threatening to fight staff. He was taken into custody at approximately 5:50 a.m. Smith was arraigned at Caledonia Superior Court, and Judge Michael Kainen ordered Smith transported to NECC in St. Johnsbury and held on $1,500 bail.
