American Red Cross asks donors to set aside time

BURLINGTON — As people make travel plans to celebrate with family and friends this year, the American Red Cross asks donors to set aside time to give blood or platelets for patients waiting for care over the holidays. From people traveling for the holidays to seasonal illnesses and the potential for hazardous weather, it can be difficult for the Red Cross to collect enough blood for patients during the winter months. When donors come to give the gift of a blood or platelet donation in December, the Red Cross will say thank you with gift opportunities. Local donation sites and times are: Derby, Dec. 19, noon-5 p.m., Newport Elks #2155, 3736 Route 5, Derby; Lyndonville, Dec. 21, VFW, 156 Hill Street; Danville, Dec. 29, noon-4 p.m., Pope Memorial Library Community Center, Route 2. Local New Hampshire blood donation sites and times are Colebrook, Dec. 12, 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m., Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital, 181 Corliss Lane; and Groveton, Dec. 26, 11:30 a.m.—4 p.m., American Legion, Route 3, 206 State Street.
