SUGAR HILL — A North Country support group for people who are or have experienced breast cancer is beginning at the Sugar Hill Library this month. Irene Amsbary, the librarian at the Richardson Memorial Library, is re-starting a breast cancer support group that had been part of in the North Country some years back – when she was undergoing breast cancer treatment herself. It stopped meeting about a decade ago, and she said there is a need to bring it back. A number of the women who were part of the original group have passed away, but Amsbary and two others from the earlier group are still living – and remember the gift other women who had been through breast cancer diagnoses and treatment gave them in being there for them, listening to them, sometimes simply offering a warm hug on a tough day. The other women still living who were part of the first support group are Jody Blaney and Beth Simon; the original group numbered 16.
