A New Hampshire man has been charged with attempted murder

A New Hampshire man has been charged with attempted murder after an altercation at fishing hole in Newport. Caleb Maniscalchi, 21, of Manchester, N.H., allegedly smashed Ian Scenna, 42,  in the head with a rock and then tried to drown him in the Clyde River until another fisherman came to the rescue. Maniscalchi pleaded not guilty Tuesday to felony charges of 2nd-degree attempted murder, aggravated assault,  2nd-degree unlawful restraint and to a charge of disorderly conduct by fighting.  On Oct. 9 at 5:16 p.m., Newport Police were dispatched to the Clyde River, near Hill Street, in Newport. When police arrived on the scene, the alleged victim, Ian Scenna, 42, said he was struck in the head with a rock and then his head was held underwater after an argument in the fishing hole.  Luke Holland, 20, walked over and advised he witnessed the altercation.   Scenna said there was an argument with Maniscalchi over his fishing habits, and said this was when he was struck in the head with a rock.  Scenna told police that after being struck in the head, they fell into the water and Maniscalchi held his head underwater, obstructing his ability to breathe.  Maniscalchi faces a possible sentence of up to life in prison.
