A fire that started in a garage on Monday burned into the living space of a home
SUTTON — A fire that started in a garage on Monday burned into the living space of a home on Route 5, drawing a firefighting response from multiple area towns and causing significant damage to the structure. Sutton Fire Chief Kyle Seymour said firefighters were able to stop the flames before they crumbled the home, and all the walls remained standing after the firefight, but there was too much fire and smoke damage. He called it a total loss. Because the walls are intact and much of the living space was limited to smoke damage, Seymour said some of the home’s contents are salvageable. Joining Sutton firefighters were firefighters and equipment from East Burke, West Burke, Newark, Lyndonville and Sheffield-Wheelock. No injuries were reported.
