A bill was signed by Gov. Chris Sununu

MERRIMACK, N.H. — A bill that strengthens penalties against establishments that overserve alcohol has been signed into law. House Bill 279, also known as the Elizabeth Croke Law, was signed by Gov. Chris Sununu on Friday. Elizabeth Croke died in a crash on the Everett Turnpike in April of 2021. The 20-year-old had just passed through the Bedford tolls on the southbound side when her car was hit head-on by another vehicle traveling the wrong way. She and the 24-year-old driver of the other car both died. Officials said the other driver was overserved at a Windham bar before the crash. The new law increases maximum penalties for establishments that overserve from $2,500 to $7,500, if their overserving leads to injury or death.
