The Vermont Department of Forests, Parks, and Recreation is proposing to acquire approximately 156 acres

CONCORD — The Vermont Department of Forests, Parks, and Recreation is proposing to acquire approximately 156 acres on Victory, to expand the Victory State Forest. The Trust for Public Land is working with the landowners on the proposed permanent conservation of the parcel. Kate Wanner, senior project manager for the nonprofit, said the landowners would like to sell about 156 acres, most of which fall on the east side of the Moose River, to the state. It would be added to Victory State Forest. There’s also a plan for 103 acres on the west side of the Moose River.  “The addition to Victory State Forest will also, of course, have guaranteed public access and be managed for long-term forest health, wildlife habitat, recreation and water quality,” she said. The Concord Select Board voted unanimous support for the proposal on Nov. 7. The Trust for Public Land has applied for funding from the federal Forest Legacy Program for the acquisition, and the nonprofit will also be seeking support from private donors and foundations.
