Cannon Mountain Tramway Replacement Bid Comes in at $44.6 Million

New Hampshire is mulling its next steps after a low bid of $44.6 million was submitted to replace the Cannon Mountain aerial tramway, though that amount is still nearly $12 million above what the state previously earmarked for the project.

In October 2025, the aerial tramway, which launched in 1938 to transport visitors and skiers to and from the summit of Cannon Mountain, retired its two second-generation tram cars that began operation in 1980.

There is currently no operating tram system for the public and it could be two years or longer before a new tramway is up and running. In the meantime, the state has been putting the pieces in place to build out a modern, third-generation tram system.
