Littleton Police Warn of Contractor Scams and Unfinished Jobs

For several years, Littleton police have been contacted by residents lodging complaints about contractors who accept pre-payments for construction and other jobs and then either don’t start the jobs or don’t complete them. “We run into this a lot,” said Littleton Police Detective-Sergeant Scott Powers. “There are contractors in the area who will sign up or agree to do a job and take money as a down payment and not complete any of those services.” A complete no-show could constitute a criminal charge of theft. He said that before hiring someone for a job, they can research consumer alerts or the Better Business Bureau. He said that residents should go into any contract with caution and due diligence.
