A town employee in Enfield, New Hampshire, has been placed on leave
ENFIELD, N.H. – A town employee in Enfield, New Hampshire, has been placed on leave after a mistake resulted in a cybersecurity incident. The town manager there says that the mistake led to a “substantial amount” of town funds being deposited into a fraudulent account. When the mistake was discovered, the town manager filed a report with the Enfield Police Department, which immediately started working with the Secret Service and the FBI Cyber Crimes Division to investigate. So far, their findings suggest that a town employee responded to a request to update Enfield’s bank account information but did not follow the correct procedures. A portion of the funds have been frozen and are now in the process of being returned to the town, and there are ongoing efforts to recover more. The town says they are now enhancing their cybersecurity measures.
