A report of a Subaru driven illegally onto the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail on Tuesday

ST. JOHNSBURY — A report of a Subaru driven illegally onto the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail on Tuesday led police to a man camping near the trail who was wanted on a warrant related to alleged drug possession. George Phelps, 42, was taken into custody without incident when he was discovered off the trail about 100 yards west of the trail intersection with High Street. The arrest warrant on Phelps is connected to previous charges of cocaine possession and possession of a narcotic. The warrant was issued when Phelps reportedly missed a court date. He is set to appear in Caledonia Superior Court on Aug. 12.
