Whitefield Fire Dept Seeks Full Time EMS Funding
WHITEFIELD — The Whitefield Fire Department (WFD) is seeking additional funding for a full-time emergency medical services position. In a social media post dated March 2, Lt. Shawn Sherwood said WFD will introduce a budget amendment at Town Meeting on March 11 to create a full-time EMS/firefighter/inspector role. The position would address a decline in the department’s EMS staff caused by some emergency medical personnel leaving or reducing their commitment. WFD has already lost four EMS providers this year and had three others cut back their availability. WFD officials are concerned that current EMS staffing levels could further strain the department’s ability to provide emergency medical services.
