Waterford Select Board to Revisit Plans for Increased Police Coverage Amid Resident Concerns

WATERFORD — The Select Board plans to resume discussions soon on how to increase police coverage in town. At Monday’s meeting, board members said the issue would be raised again at a future meeting. In 2024, Waterford voters doubled the town’s contract with the Caledonia County Sheriff’s Department from $5,000 to $10,000 in hopes of increasing enforcement and addressing complaints about speeding, ATVs, vandalism and other concerns. However, the department only billed about $4,700.  Waterford, a rural town with fewer than 1,300 year-round residents, has no police department of its own. Residents say that leaves the town vulnerable to speeding and unauthorized ATV traffic, with little enforcement presence.
