Vermont State Police said a Mexican man died shortly after crossing into Vermont from Canada

Vermont State Police said a Mexican man died shortly after crossing into Vermont from Canada on Monday at 1 a.m. Jose Leos Cervantes, 45, of Aguascalientes, Mexico collapsed after encountering U.S. Border Patrol agents on Goodall Road in Holland, police said. The death is not considered suspicious by police. An autopsy on Tuesday withheld a cause and manner of death pending further testing, including toxicology. Police reported no signs of trauma. According to the state police investigation, Border Patrol reportedly observed three people crossing illegally into the U.S. at approximately 10:30 p.m. Sunday evening. Cervantes reportedly collapsed when Boarder Patrol approached the men. The others ran back to Canada police said.
