On Monday, Governor Phil Scott kicked off sugaring season with the annual first tapping

SUTTON, Vt. – On Monday, Governor Phil Scott kicked off sugaring season with the annual first tapping. The first tapping is the symbolic start to Vermont’s maple season. The ceremony is a way to acknowledge the maple industry as an important part of the state economy and rural heritage. This year’s celebration was at Pure Gold Sugaring in Sutton, run by fourth-generation sugarers in the Northeast Kingdom. The Solinsky family and Agriculture Secretary Anson Tebbetts joined the governor and area kids on a tour of the sugar house before the tree tapping.
