Officials in Littleton are looking at three encampments

As St. Johnsbury deals with a homeless encampment on private property that has been deemed a health hazard, officials in Littleton are looking at three encampments on public property and are nearing the completion of a process to implement the voter-approved ban on overnight camping. That completion comes as winter is nearing, and Littleton safety officials, like those in St. Johnsbury, work to get their town’s homeless into housing and services. In the meantime, a nonprofit in Littleton hopes to soon have a homeless shelter opened. In St. Johnsbury, police chief Joel Pierce said his department is trying to proactively address the situation, and his officers consider the welfare of the campers as they guide them to services.
